Memorizing Scripture

I always know when the Lord is trying to tell me something. He’ll put it in my path over and over.

Yesterday, I read a blogpost from one of my favorite bloggers:  (Ann Voskamp).

Her post was filled with inspiration on the importance of memorizing scripture.  It also gives readers some helpful hints on how to do it successfully with your children.

So again last night, I was flipping through the channels and I stopped when I heard the same topic being discussed.  I’m not sure of the ladies name that was being interviewed on the show but she said something that encouraged me before I went to bed.  She said that its never too late to begin teaching your children to memorize scripture.

(that means its never too late for me to learn too).

Our boys have went to sunday school, vbs, kings kids club and many church camps that have encouraged them to memorize scripture but I have never taken the time to implement us memorizing it together.

So this morning, I figured it was as good of a time as any to begin.  I had a talk with my now teenage sons on the importance in my heart to work on this together.  We worked on our verse in the car and I came home and wrote it on the small white board that hangs on our fridge.

My plan is to learn a new scripture verse each morning on our ride to school.  I have decided we’ll work on the topic of our identity in Christ.

This mornings verse:  Philippians 4:13 I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me.

  1. Jen, I love this. Last year I started Beth Moore’s two a month, and I didn’t do a great job. This year it’s a part of my plan, too, but I’m not off to a great start. I really struggle with this, but find myself getting so frustrated when I’m thinking about something or talking to someone and I know the idea, but can’t say the exact verses. I really want to work on this. Thank you so much for this post!
